NearTalent is the Canadian-facing operation of Selection Book — an eight-year-old recruitment firm that has placed talent across Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru for North American clients.
Why Canada needed a dedicated site
Most "remote talent" platforms treat Canada as the US with different spelling. They quote 1099s, IRS forms and CCPA — none of which apply to your CFO or General Counsel. We built /ca/ because the rules are genuinely different: PIPEDA, CASL, CRA T4A, FINTRAC, WSIB, provincial labour boards. Getting any of those wrong is a real penalty, not a hypothetical.
What Selection Book does
Selection Book S.L. (incorporated in Spain, operating globally) sources, screens and contracts pre-vetted talent across Latin America for clients in the US, Canada and Europe. We don't run a job board — we run a 4-stage candidate funnel with about 4% acceptance into our shortlist.
Who runs the Canada operation
Pamela Herrera — Head of Talent. Based in Mexico City. 12+ years in tech recruitment across LatAm. Manages the candidate side — sourcing, screening, technical assessment design, English proficiency review. Direct contact for every shortlist.
Agustín Tejera — Head of Strategy. Based in Madrid. Background in growth and operations. Manages the client side for Canadian and US accounts — discovery, role scoping, EOR partner selection, ongoing relationship.
How we structure work with Canadian clients
- Discovery call — 45 minutes. Role scope, seniority, tech stack, target compensation in USD, timeline.
- Shortlist within 14 days — typically 3-5 pre-screened candidates with full assessment notes, English samples, references.
- Interview support — we run the loop coordination, time zone conversion (your Toronto/Vancouver/Calgary calendar to Buenos Aires/Bogotá), and the offer negotiation.
- EOR pass-through — we partner with Deel, Pebl, Remote, Ontop and Globalization Partners. You pick the EOR; we coordinate the contract.
- Ongoing — 96% of our placements stay past 90 days. Replacement guarantee if not.
Compliance posture
We comply with PIPEDA on candidate and client data. We send commercial electronic messages only with express opt-in under CASL — single transactional responses to your inquiry are exempt. Contractor payments flow through FINTRAC-registered partners. We do not store payment cards or process payments directly — invoicing only.
What we are not
- Not an EOR — we partner with EORs but don't carry employment liability ourselves.
- Not a database — we don't sell access to a candidate list. Every engagement is a fresh, role-specific search.
- Not generalists — we focus on tech, marketing, design, data and digital operations. We don't place finance, legal or healthcare roles.
